Harvey’s Fundraising Gala
Food & Wine ::Live Music :: Dancing :: Live & Silent Auction
Three years ago, Harvey Frank was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Since then, his condition has deteriorated to the extent that he is completely paralyzed and on a ventilator, necessitating around-the-clock care. As is characteristic of ALS, his mind is as sharp as ever.
In the past, many of you have opened your hearts to Harvey. A substantial portion of the funds raised went toward providing for his mobility (i.e.. installing an elevator at his home), alternative treatments, and home health care. This afforded enormous relief to Harvey and allowed him to live with dignity, for which he is deeply grateful.
As you can well imagine, the cost of home health care is enormous. Caregivers, at an hourly rate of $15.00, cost $100,000 a year which is not covered by medical insurance. For this reason, Harvey’s resources have dried up and he finds himself once again in the unfortunate position of having to ask for your help.
Harvey’s professional life was devoted largely to improving the lives of people with disabilities and offering opportunities in the workplace. Now he needs our help. There are promising treatments on the horizon for ALS, possibly even a cure, and it is our goal ultimately to bridge the gap between now and then. If we can contribute to maintaining a safe environment for Harvey and keeping a positive outlook, we will not only help him face the difficult days ahead, but we will offer him the prospect of a better future.
